WE WANT OUR FREE! SORT OF...

Just when you thought we got rid of the freesheet newspapers (I use the word 'newspaper' lightly) along comes another one.

London Weekly [a weekly publication - in case you hadn't guessed] is to launch on 1st February 2010, and is being backed with £10.5m in funding raised by Global Publishing Group, a partnership of five private investors.

The founders of new London newspaper The London Weekly have said it will launch on 1 February, and will be distribute to commuters on Friday and Saturday mornings at London Tube and main line stations, the London Weekly will have a website, launching on 20 December, an online radio station and an awards ceremony in July letting readers vote for their favourite attractions in London.

The new paper is backed with £10.5m in funding raised by Global Publishing Group, a partnership of five private investors... (I thought we were in a recession :/)

FREE AS STANDARD

One of my favourite newspapers, The London Evening Standard, is now FREE!!!!!

Its the first quality newspaper distributed free in the UK, after they dropped the price in hope of increasing circulation (to 600,000 copies, in result would raise the advertising revenue - ah! Clever goose).

Geordie Greig, the newspaper's editor said, "This is an historic moment and great opportunity for The London Evening Standard. It's owners will be funding the distribution of over 600,000 copies of the newspaper, making it available to more Londoners than ever before."

Happy reading!
